GET STARTED RVing

We have recently begun our journey living full-time in an RV, and want to share that journey with you along with all of the things we have learned along the way. There can be many things to consider and to accomplish before changing to a life full-time RVing, and we hope that information shared here will help others through that process. Living full-time in an RV can save you money, allow you to have some adventures, and give you more time to enjoy life without being tied down to a house to take care of and the standard 9-5 job.

IS THIS LIFESTYLE RIGHT FOR YOU?

There was no doubt in our minds when we decided to hit the road full-time. This is something that we both had always wanted to do, but the timing was not right for either of us until later in life. Even though we were sure we wanted to do this, it still helped to do a lot of reading and make sure there wasn’t anything that we didn’t consider ahead of time.

THINGS TO CONSIDER:

Selling a house – or renting it out. The advantage of selling your home is of course not having the payments and property taxes or all of the maintenance and repairs of the house and the lawn. However, not everyone is ready to get rid of a home and there are property management companies that can take care of all of the details for you while you travel – and if you find that full-time RVing isn’t right for you, then you still have your home base to return to.

Significant Other. If you have a partner, is this something that both of you definitely want to do? Better to have an honest discussion regarding this now, rather than find out later that one of you wasn’t really “all in” with the idea.

Fancy stuff. Do you have a jacuzzi or hot tub? A large private yard? Some people don’t want to live without those extras they are used to having. We definitely will miss our jacuzzi, but it is worth it to us to enjoy our new adventurous lifestyle.

Family and friends. Think of any people that you will miss having around on a regular basis. Do you have family members who count on you for regular assistance? Do you (or your children for those of you traveling full-time with your youngsters) have close friends that you will miss? Keep in mind that you WILL make new friends while traveling. Some full-timers even travel to the same areas or campgrounds during certain times of the year to be near their new camping friends.

Costs. Complete a detailed budget, and include things like repairs and maintenance on the RV, propane, wood for campfires, RV insurance, etc. There is more help here and also at the link below for creating a budget. If you will be a full-timer and will be selling your home, RVing can definitely save you money!
