Full Time RV Life

Full Time RV Life

When we first decided to sell our homes and most of our possessions, we got two kinds of reactions from people: 1. Excited for us, with some people proclaiming, “that’s my dream!” 2. Just a weird look. Even my financial advisor thought we were a little insane, but of course offered good financial advice – plan for maintenance and emergencies.

Before making the leap to full-time, I suggest doing what we did, and first either renting an RV or buying a cheaper RV and taking some long weekend trips or week-long trips to see how you like it. If you decide you don’t like it, you can sell your RV or keep it for vacations only.

Reasons for going full-time

Full-time RVing offers a simple, low stress way of life. The fewer things you have, the fewer things you have to worry about. You are free to travel and have adventures. Costs are lower than home ownership, since you have no house payment, property taxes and large maintenance such as roof replacement. It makes more sense financially than a traditional life of driving to work every day to pay for the house that you’re not in all day (because you’re at work) and to pay for the car that you need – to get to work.

There are some logistics of not having a permanent home that you will need to work out first, like how to get your mail, and what to do about health insurance if you don’t have it through an employer. Since we’ve had to research these things already we have shared the information on the pages below. If you have valuable information about these subjects that you would like to share with others, reply below! We would love to hear from you and your experience with full-time RVing.
