Camping Recipes

Ahhh, cooking outdoors – one of the best parts of this perma-camping lifestyle! I generally don’t care for cooking, but if I have to do it I much prefer to fire up the grill and enjoy the outdoors while doing it. Assuming you’re in a place where the sun shines (almost) all of the time, you can use these proven, delicious recipes that are our favorites for the grill or campfire. I’ve also included some for indoors on the stove top if you’re cooking plans are ruined by rain, and you’re not hooked up to electrical service.

I’d like to mention here that I do some meal prep before driving to a new destination. It makes life easier during the trip and after arrival at a new place. Some things that I do ahead of time include:

  1. Chop and blanch veggies & store in glass containers
  2. Chop onions & saute a few, leave some raw
  3. Brown ground beef or meatless grind & store in glass containers
  4. Prep marinades in jars or other glass containers
  5. Cook bacon partially
  6. Boil pasta – it can be reheated by running it under hot water or adding it to a pot of hot water
  7. Slice or grate cheeses

Going through this bit of prep work, which doesn’t take much time, helps immensely with cooking during trips, especially if you are stopping for free overnight parking at places where you can’t use a grill.
